The World's Best POS

Standard PC...                                 Dynakey...                                  Touch Screen...

It’s what you asked for

As Internet and other technologies have evolved in recent years, market expectation of what a retail point of sale system should deliver has escalated. Today's retail IT managers want single platform, scalable POS systems at a competitive price. They are interested in a robust POS database structure and a foundational structure that enables them to include their unique business requirements.

While some POS software developers have struggled to meet these requirements from within a decidedly complex POS development environment, Infinity from ALM Systems has been developed with these exact IT management expectations in mind.

Simple yet sophisticated

Infinity consists of a head office central module where all data is collected. The module can receive merchandising information from external sources and will automatically replicate this data to all stores. Sales information from stores is then replicated into head office and made available for reporting. The head office module can also be used to establish inventory and customers and unique configurations for all stores.

At the back end, the Infinity back office module controls the store, providing local reporting and end-of-period functionality. At the front end, the Infinity Point of Sale module manages and processes all sales and features strong security to control error corrects, voids, refunds, and cash outs. Advanced search modes for items and customers complete the coalface efficiency of Infinity.

Big or small, your call

Infinity’s excellence is in part due to its scalability. It supports the transactional volume of a major department store with hundreds of lanes, down to a store with just a single PC. Infinity also easily adapts to unique retail environments – linking to fuel controllers, scales, scanners, printers and electronic fund transfer devices. A multi-branch inventory replicating structure allows Infinity to act as a “drop in” POS solution to any merchandising package.

Why you should ignore the others

Most point of sale programs store their data in ISAM (Indexed Sequential Access Method) databases such as DBase, FoxPro, Paradox and others.
Those databases do not provide such functionality as guarantied data integrity and true transaction control.

Some of the packages then attempt to replicate valuable POS information between those ISAM data sources and SQL back end database.

The end product is invariably a POS system that can function well if fully detached from a server (in the event of a network failure) but that cannot offer full transaction integrity (in other words, these products cannot guarantee that transactions that have been processed at the front end in the event of a network failure will not be lost upon reconnection to the network.)

The critical difference with Infinity is that it is entirely built on MS SQL Server Desktop Engine.

It is a desktop version of MS SQL Server 2000 and so uses all SQL technology. Replication is therefore internal to Infinity, ensuring that data processed anywhere on the system is retained no matter what happens to the network.

It also means that there is only one entry point to the Infinity system (at head office) as replication automatically distributes customer and inventory information to all stores or network nodes.
